With a lot going on inside of your stomach, it is important to take care of your body. It is time to do rest, but you also need to spend your waking moments preparing to bring your little one into the world. Most women can continue working during their pregnancy period, but some can’t. So, today in this article we’ll talk about some things that you should avoid in your pregnancy period to reduce the complications and risk of loss, let’s have a look at it:

1. Avoid alcohol

Drinking alcohol during your pregnancy may cause fetal alcohol syndrome. The alcohol crosses the placenta and can affect your fetus. Don’t drink, especially in the first trimester of your pregnancy when your baby’s brain is going through a period of intense development. And it can cause some health issues such as physical abnormalities, behavioral problems, poor growth, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, seizures, reduced coordination, and fine motor skills.

2. Don’t eat raw meat

Undercooked and raw meat and eggs carry the risk of foodborne illness, such as toxoplasmosis and listeriosis. There are also chances of food poisoning. These can cause life-threatening, serious, illnesses that could lead to severe birth defects and even miscarriage. Make sure that meat and eggs that you eat while pregnant are well-cooked.

3. Avoid caffeine

Just like alcohol, caffeine can cross the placenta and affect the fetus. While most of the data regarding caffeine consumption and pregnancy is inconclusive, the study says that it is best to limit the intake of caffeine to 300 milligrams (mg) per day. Some health advisors suggest that quantities greater than this can be harmful to the fetus and may increase the risk of low birth weight and pregnancy loss. Pregnant women should not consume not more than 200 mg of caffeine per day. This amounts to about 1 and a half cups of coffee per day.

4. Heavy lifting

According to medical associations, pregnant women should avoid heavy lifting. For some women, lifting heavy objects can raise the risk of hernias, preterm labor, pulled muscles, and low birth weight. So, avoid lifting any heavy object during your pregnancy to stay healthy and safe.

5. Avoid taking certain medications

Pregnant women should avoid some over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medications while pregnant, as these can harm their fetus. Doctors recommend avoiding some medications while pregnant such as ACE inhibitors, most herbal remedies, some cold medications during the first trimester, acne medications, cold and flu medications that contain specific ingredients, ibuprofen, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. A medical associate can provide you advice on which medications are good to use and can often recommend alternatives if you can no longer take their regular medicines.
