7 Common Causes Of Breast Lumps Experienced By Women
Breast pain, lumps, discharge, or skin problems can be a sign of something more serious or a minor problem, so it’s important to pay attention to any breast changes. Most breast problems are not caused by breast cancer but it is important to get concerns checked by a doctor. Breast lumps can be caused by injuries, infections, non-cancerous growths, and cancer.
Breast lumps in women can develop at any age. Adolescent girls can get breast lumps that feel tender, which mainly go away naturally during puberty. Your breasts may change throughout your menstrual cycle each month because of the changes in hormones. Usually, this is most obvious in the week before your period of time. It heals when your period starts.
2. Breast cysts
It is a fluid-filled lump. They are usually round or oval lumps that are firm and smooth. They are more common in women approaching menopause, although they can occur at any age.
3. Fibroadenoma
It is a non-cancerous and most common type of benign breast lump. This may occur as a result of the excess growth of the connective tissue and glands in the breasts. They usually feel like a firm, round, and rubbery lumps. Usually, when they are pressed, they move slightly under the skin.
4. Infection
A lump which is caused by infection is most common in women who are breastfeeding. This may lead to the development of a collection of abscess in the breast. The ducts that carry the milk in the breast can become blocked. Bacteria can enter into the breast through cracks in the nipple. It can also occur in women who are not breastfeeding but most happen with the breastfeeders.
5. Lipoma
It is a fatty growth that develops within the fatty tissue of a woman’s breast. It is non-cancerous and mainly does not need any kind of treatment. However, if it is large or causing any symptoms it can be removed.
6. Fat necrosis
Trauma or injury to the fatty tissue in a woman’s breast can cause a lump. These may usually heal and go away of their own accord. However, they can be removed.
7. Breast cancer
Most of the breast lumps are not caused by breast cancer. However, it can be a cause of lumps in the breasts and can be treated, but it requires urgent treatment.
